Adult Language Workshops
Gujaga and Lendlease have collaborated on a number of initiatives since 2018. We recently received funding to deliver adult Dharawal language classes to the community. A video of the project is below.
The Gujaga Foundation aims to instil a strong sense of cultural identity and belonging in the children and young people of the La Perouse Aboriginal community.
A core pillar of this purpose is for our children and young people to have access to Dharawal language education. However, for Dharawal language education to be reinforced at home, their adult parents and relatives must also be given access to the languages.
The Dharawal adult language classes provide an opportunity for our community to practice their culture and continue to revitalise the use of Dharawal language in homes. The classes provide a safe environment for our community to come together and connect, while engaging with culture.
Having our senior Dharawal language knowledge holders leading these sessions also provides an opportunity for our language tutors to continue their learning and experience of in-class teaching to adults.
